The Yamuna River Project for Blue Water

The Yamuna River originates from the Yamunotri in the
Himalayas in northern India and generally flows SE through Dehli,
Agra - past the Taj Mahal, 850 miles from its source to join the
Ganges River near Allahabad. It is a sacred river. People use its
water for irrigation, drinking, swimming, bathing, and for
spiritual sustenance. It is also one of the most polluted rivers
in the world laden with raw sewerage and industrial effluent
containing carcinogens.
The Rivers
of the World Foundation - 2007, parent of the Yamuna Foundation
for Blue Water -2000, both founded by Subijoy Dutta, PE,
(environmental engineer, author of a text Book on environmental
treatment technologies, recipient of humanitarian award at the US
Capitol) seeks to restore clean water and protect streams. The
foundation has undertaken river projects, many consultations,
drawing on expertise of volunteer scientists and engineers, in
countries including the Philippines, India, Mexico, Jamaica. In
the US in states of Oklahoma, Tennessee, Maryland, and Virginia.
The current primary focus of ROW and Yamuna Foundation is to
clean up the Yamuna River. ROW Foundation plans to establish
Yamuna Awareness Centers in Yamunanagar, Karnal, and Panipath as
shown in the image below.
In 2008, the Row Foundation became partners with the Alice Ferguson Foundation which began its trash cleanup campaign of the Potomac River 20 years ago and expects completion in 2013. Starting with a handful of volunteers the annual spring Trash cleanup in the Potomac Watershed now includes thousands of volunteers working in communities in 3 states from the headwaters in WVA to the mouth bounded by MD and VA. The ROW Foundation in parallel completed trash cleanups in the spring of the last two years in Dehli and Agra.
Together these Foundations are committed to cleaning up both the Yamuna and Potomac -- two major rivers through the capitals of two major countries. The purpose of this benefit concert is to raise funds to conduct a few field workshops along the Yamuna in greater Agra and Delhi area to train school students and rural communities in water quality and organizing for protection and cleanup of the Yamuna River by applying experience gained from US river restoration and protection projects.
